Meteora della settimana: 4 NON BLONDES

Per lo spazio settimanale dedicato alle meteore musicali, anche stavolta si parla di un altro gruppo tutto al femminile: le "4 NON BLONDES". Il loro genere è stato definito "rock alternativo", definizione che personalmente mi trova in disaccordo. In ogni caso, le 4 statunitensi hanno avuto poco tempo per dimostrare quanto potessero essere valide musicalmente. 4 anni (guardacaso) è durata la loro carriera: formatiesi a San Francisco nel 1990 con Christa Hillhouse al basso, Shauna Hall alla chitarra, Wanda Day alla batteria e la cantante Linda Perry, il successo che ancora oggi si sente in giro per le radio è stato e sarà sempre solo uno e indimenticabile: "WHAT'S UP?".



Il disco dal quale è tratto il singolo, s'intitola "Bigger, Better, Faster, More!" e nel 1992 arrivò all’undicesimo posto della Billboard Top 200, e anche dopo una messa in onda massiccia del video su MTV, l’album vendette più di 6 milioni di copie in tutto il mondo. Due anni dopo, lo scioglimento.
Che fine hanno fatto oggi le 4 non blondes??
Partendo da Wanda Day, morta per droga nel 1997, troviamo Shauna e Christa, entrambe ancora inserite nel mondo della musica con diversi progetti. La frontgirl cantante Linda Perry, invece, ha scritto canzoni per cantanti come Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera e Pink. Ah, nel frattempo aveva fatto pubblico outing dichiarandosi lesbica.
Tra l'altro, Linda ha collaborato con la nostra Giusy Ferreri (molto probabilmente destinata a diventare meteora anche lei) per la realizzazione del suo primo album di inediti, che uscirà il 14 novembre.

Vabbè, aspettero' qualche anno prima di parlare anche di lei. Per adesso, ecco qui il testo della canzone che nel '92 rese celebri in tutto il mondo le 4 non blondes: "What's up?".
